THE LAVAMOS PROJECT - RECAP
On January 2nd, 2026 we launched The Blue House. That very first week, we gathered at Beautiful Laundrette with the owners, Neighborhood House, and Humboldt High School to coordinate how to support families during Operation Metro Surge.
We knew our incredible community was already showing up with protection and mutual aid, so we asked ourselves: where are the gaps? That’s how LavAmos was born — through something as simple, and as essential, as laundry.
In that time, 30 volunteers supported 30 families by doing their laundry each week.
But it became so much more than laundry.
Volunteers built real relationships with the families they supported. They became trusted, consistent presences — witnesses to what families were going through — and helped connect them to additional resources when needed.
together we…
Hosted over five home visits supporting medical needs like rashes, high blood pressure, and medication access
Supported children experiencing stress responses, like bedwetting, with diapers and care
Delivered diapers and formula to expecting and postpartum families
Provided rides to immigration court hearings
Brought puppy pads, toys, and treats for pets who were also stuck inside
Delivered hand warmers and coffee to neighbors patrolling the schools
The Blue House delivered posters and flyers to help businesses show support.
We even saw our Blue Bus decorated with signs of resistance and solidarity carrying fighters for justice.
This community showed up with so much care, dignity, and love.
Thank you to every volunteer — even those not on Facebook — for your time, your compassion, and your commitment.
Thank you to Beautiful Laundrette for opening your space for orientations and weekly washes.
Thank you to Neighborhood House and Humboldt High School for trusting us with referrals.
Thank you to everyone who donated laundry detergent and supplies.
And a special thank you to Charitos for the incredible food, and to the Ujamaa Place men for sharing your musical talents with us.
This may be a sunset, but the impact — and the relationships — will continue to ripple forward.
